Potch - Apr 2025

This circular road trip began in Cape Town and unfolded through the vast interior of South Africa, where long stretches of open road led to the Karoo towns of De Aar, Petrusville, and Koffiefontein, each carrying quiet echoes of the country’s mining and railway past. History took centre stage at the Voortrekker Monument before the landscape softened into the rocky beauty of Magaliesburg, the spectacle of Sun City, and the tranquil bushveld surrounds of African Hills, with Potchefstroom adding a youthful, riverside pause. The return journey traced a more reflective path through Leeu Gamka, an Anglo-Boer War blockhouse, and the stark plains of Laingsburg, completing the loop back to Cape Town and tying together heritage, wilderness, and the enduring pull of the open road.
